Official eBay app now available in App World

From BlackberryCool.com

"RIM and eBay have launched a beta version of the official eBay app for BlackBerry. The app was discussed back at the BlackBerry Developer Conference, and is now available for you to try.

The eBay app gives you the ability to buy, pay, and check ebay activity from your BlackBerry. The coolest part of this app is that it pushes status notifications of eBay listings in real-time, to let you know if you've won a bid, you're being outbid, or a listing on your Watch List is ending soon.

The eBay app is available in App World. (c) Kyle for BlackBerry Cool, 2009"

I installed this on my Blackberry, and so far, I'm really liking it.

Remember The Milk - A Cool Task Management Tool

Remember The Milk (http://www.rememberthemilk.com) is a really cool task management tool that is easy to use, and the standard version is free.

What I really like about it is that you can update it from a whole bunch of different services:
https://www.rememberthemilk.com/services/

You can even update it by voice, using a service like dial2do.com. Very cool!

The Service

Managing tasks is generally not a fun way to spend your time. We created Remember The Milk so that you no longer have to write your to-do lists on sticky notes, whiteboards, random scraps of paper, or the back of your hand. Remember The Milk makes managing tasks an enjoyable experience.

We began work on Remember The Milk in August 2004. What started as a simple idea soon became a huge web application with every feature imaginable (there's a reason why this took more than a year to finish!). We launched in October 2005. Remember The Milk now has more than 1.5 million registered users.

Using the Application Switcher and Closing Apps When Finished to Maximize Your BlackBerry Efficiency

From Crackberry.com:

This is article is for all the new BlackBerry owners out there... It's pretty easy to pick up a BlackBerry for the first time and start using it. Scroll (or tap) to where you want to go, hit the menu key (the one with the little dots/seeds) for options and you're on your way - within a few minutes you're sending emails, browsing websites, setting your alarm clock, playing songs, booking appointments, adding contacts, and before you know it you're installing third party apps so you can facebook, twitter, stream music, play games and whatever else you want to do. As you start to learn BlackBerry shortcuts, arrange your homescreen icons and dial in your device settings (set convenience keys, tweak your trackball/trackpad/screen sensitivity) you go from simply using your BlackBerry to using it effectively. Do you actively use the Application Switcher on your BlackBerry smartphone?(online surveys)

Google Voice - VERY COOL!

I just received an e-mail informing me that I've been invited to join Google Voice. This is really cool! You choose a Google Voice phone number, and calls to that number will forward to any numbers you choose. The last 4 digits of my new Google Voice number are 4JOY - how cool is that?

Not only does it forward to your personal phones, it also allows you to screen calls, receive voice mails, set up spam filters for those annoying telemarketers, and put people into groups with their own custom voice mail greetings and other settings. You can also place calls within the US for free!

It's by invite only, but you can sign up to get an invite at

Springpads are VERY Cool!

Right now, I'm working on taking inventory of my pantry, refrigerator and freezer, so that I don't buy stuff I don't need (like the 6 cans of diced tomatoes currently residing in my cabinet).

Next up is going to be a meal planner (with recipes) for the ALL YOU Grocery Challenge that I entered, which starts on July 13th, followed by a shopping list, which I'll be able to access via Springpad Mobile on my Blackberry. How cool is that?

reQall - An Awesome Tool for Remembering Stuff

I have this installed both on my Blackberry and as a Firefox add-on. I liked it so much, I decided to splurge for the Pro version for a year. I am really happy with it, and am constantly learning new ways to use it.

reQall has several options to choose from - you don't need to have a Blackberry or an iPhone. You can use it via e-mail, IM phone, or web as well. The Pro version allows you to integrate your reQall reminders with your Outlook or Google calendar.

You can set up recurring reminders and shopping lists, and the Pro version allows you to organize them into categories or "Places". I have my Places set up as Home - Errands, Home - Tasks, Personal Errands, Work, Birthdays, Weight Watchers, etc. You can dictate an item by voice on your phone, and reQall will transcribe and add it to your list. The Standard version offers a multitude of features for free - pretty much the only things you can't do with Standard are integrate with your Outlook or Google calendar, and sort items into "Places".

There's so much you can do with it that I can't begin to describe it all here. The best way to find out is to visit the reQall website and see for yourself.

reQall is a voice-enabled memory aid that seamlessly integrates your mobile phone, email, text messaging and IM into a powerful organizer, reminder system and productivity assistant. reQall lets you capture your ideas, tasks and commitments before you forget, and it proactively keeps you well-prepared and memory-strong.

Explore the pages below to see what you can do with reQall and learn how it integrates with the devices and programs you’re already using. See our comparison chart to learn about the two versions of reQall, Standard and Pro.

Poynt for Blackberry

Need to find a pizza place nearby, or find out what's playing at the movies this weekend? Try Poynt!

Poynt is another really useful application that I've added to my Blackberry. It enables you to find nearby businesses based on either a location you've manually entered, your GPS location or cell-site locates when GPS is unavailable.

One of the features I've found very useful is the ability to add business listing details to your address book really easily and quickly. You can also look up nearby movie showtimes and, while I have not tried this personally, you can purchase movie tickets from your phone and get seating layouts and other theater info.

This is a very slick and professional-looking application and best of all, it's free!

Because Every Geek Needs a Chart

I found this on Mashable, and of course, I had to try it out.
"But do you know where you share the most? Are you actually a blogging junkie, or perhaps you’re Twitter addicted? Well GeekChart is a new and simple tool for not only discovering the answer to these burning questions, but it’s also a way to share the results with all of your friends."
You also get your own public Geek Chart page, which shows your last 30 days of updates. My chart is below and in the right-hand margin of my blog. You can also explore the Geek Charts of other geeks.
"Each slice of the Geek Chart is a link to your profile on sites like Flickr, Twitter, Youtube and more."

    Seesmic Desktop

I'm taking this for a test-drive right now, and so far, I am really loving it!

Not only can you have multiple Twitter/Facebook account columns display side-by-side, but you can create groups of people that you follow, so that you can find and display those updates easily. I set up a group for friends and family, one for my Weight Watchers-related follows, one for coupons and shopping, one for geek stuff, etc.

If you've used Twhirl, Seesmic Desktop takes it to the next level. It's really easy to set up and use, and you can display multiple account columns across your page by clicking on the "Detach" button. The only down-side for me so far is the inability to change the color scheme, but that's a "me" issue.

Seesmic Desktop Updates: More Facebook Comments, Less Twitter Spam

    May 22nd, 2009 | by Jennifer Van Grove7 Comments

seesmic-logoWhen Seesmic Desktop first launched we thought it had great potential to be a threat to TweetDeck. Then after adding Facebook integration, we were convinced that it was indeed a fierce rival.

Now, just a few short weeks later, Seesmic Desktop has released yet another update, and we remain impressed. The update, available now, fixes a few minor bugs, but adds in some key features we’ve been craving: Facebook commenting, Twitterspam reporting, additional image options, spellcheck, and even Tweetshrink support to auto-condense 140 plus character updates.

For the Food Geeks Among Us

This is very cool! I've already bookmarked it on my Blackberry.

Fotomoto Lets Photographers Sell Photos On-Site Without The Hassle

"A couple lines of code. That's all it takes for photographers and publishers with large inventories of images to start selling their work on their own websites, thanks to an ambitious fledgling company. You'd think that something so simple could be pulled off by many a startup, but in reality I'm having trouble finding other companies that do it the way the recently launched Fotomoto does it (i.e. the right way). Sure, there are multiple ways for photographers to sell photos on other websites, but that usually requires both them and buyers to have a separate account with the provider of the marketplace service."

    GyPSii CONNECT

I added this to my blackberry the other day, and have been having a bit of fun with it.

GyPSii is a mobile social network, and, while I'm still figuring out the ins and outs of it, it's pretty cool. You can add photos, places and update your status.

Now, using CONNECT, you can also update your facebook and Twitter status via GyPSii. It also does it in reverse - if your facebook or Twitter status was updated more recently, it can update your GyPSii status. I've got mine set up that way, and now all three services - facebook, Twitter and GyPSii update each other. Pretty cool!

GyPSii CONNECT updates Twitter and Facebook from your BlackBerry

The mobile social network GyPSii, has launched a service called CONNECT, which allows users to automatically update and share their status across Twitter and Facebook as well as its own network. The social network supports BlackBerry, meaning you can update your accounts directly from your device.

The cornerstone of this social network is its PlaceMe feature. The feature lets users record a moment or an experience using photos or videos, geotag it and share it with others by publishing it on GyPSii or Facebook and also sending it as a Twitter message.

    Where do I START???

I guess the best place to start would be some of my favorite web tools:

    • Shareaholic - This is an awesome tool for sharing links. You can use it to share links on facebook, Twitter, friendfeed, delicious, e-mail, tumblr, StumbleUpon and lots of others. I use it with Firefox all the time!
    • Morning Coffee - One of my favorite Firefox add-ons! It lets you organize websites by day and open them up simultaneously as part of your daily routine. You can have one set of sites open Monday-Friday, another on the weekends, and set others for every day or only on certain days. This is cool!
    • Clipmarks - On Clipmarks.com, you can see clips of text, images or video about all sorts of topics that other people find while surfing the web.
    • Wired-Marker - This is really cool. You can not only bookmark sites, but you can highlight text within the site, and it will save it with your text highlighted. And, for those who are into customizing colors, you can change your highlighter colors.

    And so it begins...

I'm sitting here looking at the copy of "BlackBerry for Dummies" that's sitting on my desk, along with a copy of "Twitter Revolution". Also among the books I borrowed from my library is "facebook: The Missing Manual".

I think I need an intervention. But, since that probably isn't going to happen anytime soon, I figured I'd put my addiction to good use and share. Be afraid. Be very afraid!
